AURORA, Ill.—DeKalb resident Brian A. Vander Schee, associate professor of marketing at Aurora University, recently was honored for authoring the top paper for a national conference.

Vander Schee, with Matt Elbeck of Troy University in Dothan, Ala., won the Best Refereed Paper Award at the Marketing Management Association’s 16th annual Fall Educators’ Conference at St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 21-23. The conference theme was “Sustainability, Accountability, Marketability.”

The award-winning paper was titled “Contemporary Scholarly Productivity: An Alternative Measure for Excellence in Doctoral Marketing Programs.”

Vander Schee said, “Searching for the best doctoral program in marketing is a critical task. However discerning which institution offers the best program can be an arduous task as published college rankings may reflect scholarly perception more so than scholarly production and promise.”

The paper reported a study that ranked college doctoral marketing programs based on the scholars who are the source of academic excellence. The authors applied the Recency-Frequency-Money segmentation model to offer a contemporary measure of scholarly excellence based on top tier marketing journal 90th percentile citation counts from 2006 to 2010.

Institutions were ranked in two categories; preeminent and superior. Domestic schools were recognized and competitive institutions outside the United States were also listed.

For a second straight year, Vander Schee served as conference program chairman. He was also named program chairman for the 2012 national conference to be held in Minneapolis.
