“Lending to Lazarus” is a Lambda Pi Eta (LPE) sponsored fundraiser taking place on AU’s campus from now until Tuesday, Dec. 13.  LPE members are collecting new and gently used items from students and faculty to present to the Lazarus House in St. Charles, Ill.

Student members of LPE set up a table in Dunham Hall atrium on Dec. 6 to pass out fliers and inform students and staff of the need at Lazarus House and how each person can pitch in.  Despite busy schedules, many students and faculty members stopped by the table and expressed interest in donating items to Lazarus House.

All contributions are being collected at the Communication House (428 S. Randall Rd.) directly behind the Institute for Collaboration building. To enhance the spirit of giving, LPE members have decorated a Christmas tree inside the Communication house so that donators may place their gifts under the tree when they drop off.

A few of the items that Lazarus House needs:

  • sample size toothbrushes/toothpaste
  • sample size shampoo
  • body soap
  • deodorant
  • lotion
  • feminine products
  • baby wipes
  • disposable razors
  • face tissue
  • plastic cutlery
  • napkins
  • L or XL sweatpants/T-shirts
  • hats/gloves/scarves

“It’s important to give back to the community, and we wanted to reach outside of Aurora and spread the love to other places,” said Jordan Joyce, a senior and president of LPE.

Realizing that many clubs and organizations are sponsoring charity events around this time of year, Joyce is hopeful that the AU community will be supportive and donate items to Lazarus House.

“It’s a nice thing to do.  Times are hard and it’s nice to be able to help people out, especially around the holidays.  It feels good to help other people,” said Samantha Dixon, a junior and LPE member.

Lazarus house “serves men, women and children connected to the school districts of St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia and western rural Kane County who are homeless or are at risk,” according to their website.   Their mission is to provide hospitality, food, safe shelter, and support services to those in the community who are homeless or in need.
