Lisle, Ill. – Aurora University (8-8) lost to Benedictine University (6-10) in their first matchup of the season this Thursday. AU took an early 6-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game and had the lead most of the first half. The Spartans blocked six shots in the half and only allowed the Eagles a 26.7 percent shooting percentage compared to the Spartans’ 38.71 percent. The half ended 30-23 AU.
The second half began to resemble the first until the Eagles took their second lead of the game with 14:18 to play. Many missed shots and turnovers by AU allowed BU to control the rest of the second half. The Eagles outshot the Spartans 54.84 percent to 36.67 percent.
Top Spartan performers were Ryan Crow with 19 points, five rebounds and five blocked shots and Joel Iventosch with 17 points and seven rebounds.
The next game for the Spartans comes Saturday, Jan. 21, when they host Lakeland College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. in Thornton Gymnasium.
