Aurora, ILL.- Soflisburg Park sure was lively Saturday, April 15 in the contest between Aurora University (19-4 and 7-1 NAC) and Rockford College (10-12 and 6-2 NAC). Both teams scored a combined total of 60 runs in 17 innings. Aurora took the first game 17-8 while Rockford took the second with a score of 24-11 in eight innings.
Game one was scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Spartans scored five runs, including three RBIs from senior, Ryan Adams and Mike Foley. However, the Regents tied it up in the top of the fourth with a series of walks and an error by the Spartans. The Spartans answered back with three runs including a three-run home run by junior, Cory Walden. The Regents retaliated with two runs in the top of the fifth making the score 8-7.
The Spartans came up big in the bottom of the fifth inning with a series of hits starting with a double by freshman, Carlos Olavarria. Later in the inning, senior, Tim Mackey, singled causing a bases loaded situation. Adams doubled to right center scoring three runs. Senior, Brett VanAsdlen hit Adams in with a single. The Spartans ended the fifth with a score of 13-7. The sixth inning was scoreless for both teams.
The top of the seventh inning began with a Rockford home run, but followed with three quick outs by the Spartan defense. Mackey retaliated with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning making the score 14-8.
The Regents remained scoreless for the rest of the game, but the Spartans scored three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The end score was 17-8.
The final score of the second game was 24-11 with the Regents on top. AU struggled with errors and walks allowing the Regents to come out on top. Top performers of game two were Cory Walden, who went 3-4 with a home run and five RBIs, and Bobby Wilson who went 3-4 with one RBI. The Spartans are now 20-5 overall and 8-2 in the NAC.
