Speech Night 2012

The Lambda Pi Eta, communication honor society, and the AU Communication program hosted a persuasive speech competition on April 26 in Perry Theater. Nine students from AU’s public speaking classes were selected by peers to take the stage that evening.

From school uniforms to eating healthy topics covered a wide range of social issues. Senior Garrett White enjoyed hearing about new areas of stem cell research, “I lost vision in one eye after a childhood accident.”

The panel of judges included Toby Arquette, Associate Professor of Communication and Department Chair,

Jordan Joyce, Lambda Pi Eta’s President, presented trophies and prizes to the top three speakers:

First place: Jacob Behrens of, a senior secondary education major, presented the percollege extracurricular activities

Second place: Taylor Herodes of Yorkville, a freshman pre-law and political science major, discussed the benefits of school uniforms

Arquette invited all nine participants to join the new Spartan Speech Team in the 2012-2013 academic year.
