Aurora University Football rolled to a 56-17 win on Saturday over Lakeland College bringing their conference record to 3-2 and an overall record to 4-4.
After a few sloppy early possessions Lakeland was up 3-0 when the Spartans completed a 41 yard catch from Senior Quarterback Jimmy Bevell to Senior Receiver Derek Powell, later the two completed the drive with a touchdown pass giving the Spartans the lead.
Two straight three and outs later Aurora was able to capitalize with a 8 yard touchdown run from Freshman Running Back Brandon Evans.
Two turnovers from Lakeland in the red zone allowed Aurora Senior Running Back Brandon Trujillo to break a 33 yard run to start the drive. After Bevell completed numerous passes the Spartans brought in the Junior Quarterback Jace Koerner for the QB sneak to give the Spartans a 21-3 into halftime.
After a touchdown drive to start the half for Lakeland the Spartans looked to regain momentum, Bevell found Powell for a 46 yard touchdown pass to give the Spartans a 28-10 lead. After a good defensive drive the Spartans offence was given a short field and after several running plays by Trujillo he was able to bring one in to bring the lead to 35-10.
Following another Lakeland turnover Aurora was able to get another touchdown pass after a heavy dose of Trujillo bringing the lead to 42-10 and the route was officially on.
The next drive Koerner took over and ran the ball 34 yards for the touchdown bringing the lead to 49-10. After a return touchdown by Lakeland Aurora regained possession and Freshman Running Back Jake Apple broke a 90 yard touchdown run bringing the lead to the eventual final score of 56-17.
Bevel finished 20 of 32 with 375 yards and 4 touchdowns, Trujillo ran for 138 yards on 19 carries and one score. Apple had 3 carries for 96 yards and one score. Powell was the leading receiver with 4 catches for 119 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Spartans finished with 709 yards on offense including 334 rushing yards.
The Spartans next game is Saturday November 3, (Senior Day) against Concordia University-Wisconsin at 1pm.
