Running with a Purpose

The Aurora University Spartans cross country team competed in their largest meet on October 14th at University of Wisconsin-OshKosh.  AU men’s cross country team placed eighth out of 21 teams, and the women’s team placed 10th out of 24 teams.

 

The AU Spartan Men may have finished eighth in the meet, but they placed higher than every other Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) team.  This is a big confidence boost going into their conference meet coming up. The Spartan men had five athletes finish in the top 100. Carl Way led the Spartan Men by finishing 22nd overall with a time of 26:25.2.  David Galvan finished right behind him with a time of 26:25.6.  Anthony Barrios finished 47th, Brandon Estrada finished 63rd, and Matthew Taves finished 75th.

 

The AU Spartan Women finished tenth; also outperforming every other NACC team.  The Spartan Women were thrilled to welcome back junior Jackie Schane, who was resting a shin injury. Schane led the way placing sixth overall with a time of 22:43.7.  Jazzmine Reyes placed 17th with a time of 23:45.0.  Sandy Barrientos 87th, Eyo Toe 119th, Emily Vanderwaal 145th, Ariana Coss 163rd and Elizabeth Coleman 169th.  “These girls really stepped it up this meet, and we are nothing but excited to see what we can do at conference,” stated Jackie Schane.

 

This meet gives an inside look at the competition for the conference meet. The AU cross country team is preparing for the NACC Meet on October 28th in Mequon, Wisconsin.  The Spartans look to make an impact again this year in the NACC Meet. The Spartan men are aiming to win their third consecutive NACC title this year. The Spartan women look to win their second straight NACC title.

 

Cheer on the AU Spartan Cross Country team October 28th at the NACC meet in Mequon, Wisconsin.  The men’s race begins at 11 a.m. and the women’s race begins at 12 p.m.
