Women’s Soccer Warms Up for NACC Tournament

Aurora University Women’s soccer team hosted the Lakeland Muskies Sunday, October 22nd, at the Spartan Athletic Park. The Spartans had previously taken on the Muskies the prior week, but it was cancelled mid-game due to threatening weather.

The lady Spartans defended their turf with an 11-0 victory over the Muskies. AU junior Corynne McEachern had no mercy against Lakeland University as she scored 4 of their 11 goals within the first ten minutes of the match. Tailing McEachern’s stats were Jessica Ortiz, Anessa Munoz, and Anni Wilson with two goals each, along with Alexis Abelove with one goal to add another tally to the chalkboard for the Spartans. Corynne stated, “It was awesome because all of our goals besides mine came from underclassmen who have been major contributors to the team this year, which makes us all excited for the future!”

The Spartans followed their victory with a double-overtime tie against Concordia- Chicago Cougars at Concordia Stadium in River Forest, IL. on October 25th.

This tie earned them 3rd place in the regular season conference standings, which allows them to host the NACC quarter-finals at Spartan Athletic Park on October 29th, 5pm. Senior Shayla Fleming stated, “staying focused and engaged throughout the entire game will help lead them to their next big win.” Be sure to come support our Spartans in their fight for the conference tournament!
